FRIENDS OF DENVER PARKS – PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 5, 2013
On July 1, 2013 the Petitioners Committee filed a referendum petition with city clerk and recorder Debra Johnson to repeal the land swap deal between the city and Denver Public Schools. The referendum petition included 6,664 valid signatures of Denver registered voters. 6,129 signatures are required to place the issue on the ballot. The referendum petition included more than enough signatures to place the issue on the ballot.
On July 3, 2013 Johnson rejected the referendum petition without counting the signatures. Johnson claims that the Petitioners Committee improperly circulated the referendum petition without her permission. A copy of Johnson’s letter is available on the website FriendsofDenverParks.Org.

First Press Release July 5, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 5, 2013

On July 5, 2013 Denver District Judge Herbert L. Stern III signed a written order
denying the Motion for Preliminary Injunction of Friends of Denver Parks, Inc., Steve Waldstein and Zelda Hawkins.
Lawyers at Benson Case LLP, who represent the plaintiffs without charge, immediately filed a Notice of Appeal in the Colorado Court of Appeals, accompanied by a Motion for Injunction During Pendency of the Appeal.

If Judge Stern grants the Injunction During Pendency of the Appeal, then the sale of Hampden Heights North Park will be postponed until the Court of Appeals can rule on the issues. If Judge Stern declines to issue the Injunction, then plaintiffs will ask the Court of Appeals to grant it, according to plaintiffs’ attorney John Case. Continue reading

Calculating the numbers

Just a reminder that if you have a petition with signatures then the expectation would be that you would get them properly returned. We still are awaiting more petition sections from circulators. Please tell anyone you know who still has a petition to turn it in Monday morning July 1!!

Petitions are being collected and notarized from 9 am to noon by Judy Case at 10081 E Cornell Ave Denver 80231, (303-667-7207) and by Benson & Case law firm at 1660 S Albion St. suite 1100, Denver 80222 (303-757-8300).

All petitions will be turned in to the clerk and recorder tomorrow afternoon
July 1.
