FDP Believes Article In Denver Post Erroneous

This is a notice to all Friends of Denver Parks supporters and fans:
The article in the Post yesterday, August 8th, titled, ” Denver Looks To Add City Park Land”, had erroneous information as to our position in the courts and petition process.  Our attorney has been notified and will write both a retraction request to Jeremy Meyer as well as do a press release stating the Denver Post has been incorrect, and in essence, misinformed the Denver public.
Friends of Denver Parks would like everyone to know that both the petition and court processes are moving forward, that they are not in the past and we are presently seeking legal relief in the court and are still obtaining signatures for our petition effort.  We thank you for your support.

Hampden Heights North Park Bird of Prey

This video was taken  the morning of July 29, 2013 at approximately 7:30 a.m. at the bank of the Cherry Creek in Hentzell Park.  A large raptor was spotted walking in the midst of the prairie dog colony.  Shortly thereafter, another of the large raptors was seen in the cottonwood tree that DPS plans to cut down to build its “school.” Please note the bird’s white chest, white underbelly and white feather “leggings” that go down to its talons. The wingspan is large – at least 3 1/2 to 4 feet.

If you can identify the raptor in the video and know its legal status, please leave a comment or send mail to friendsofdenverparks@gmail.com

Since this was posted other video’s have been taken of the raptor pair that is raising their young near Hampten Heights North Park and were singing in the park. The calls can be heard distinctly.  Can any one identify the breed by the call?  Please leave a comment or sent mail to friendsofdenverparks@gmail.com

Urgent News from Friends of Denver Parks

Friends of Denver Parks held our Board Meeting this evening and a discussion was opened concerning the future of our petition effort.
John states “The city may try to disqualify some the 6,664 signatures that we turned in July 1.  Because the city interfered with our petition circulation, we asked the judge for additional time to gather signatures until August 19, 2013.  We need 3000 more signatures by August 19 to be sure we have enough to put the issue on the ballot.”   The Board has determined that following the advise of our attorney would be the best course of action to insure the best chance at being successful.

So with that being said, we will be organizing the petition drive again.  David and I have the petitions at our house and will distribute them from there.  Judy Case will handle the returns at her home.   We will need your help to make this work. We have 4 weekends to get this done.

As a reminder, during the Board meeting we witnessed a red tailed hawk, a flicker, a bat, and the coyote pack decided
to run close by yipping and howling just to let us know that they needed our voices and efforts to keep this natural space a preserve for the wildlife who continue to live in the City of Denver.

We love those green t-shirts, so lets hit the trail again,
For those who didn’t get a chance to help the first time, we could sure use some new folks/fresh horses
to help with the petitions.  Call or write about picking up a petition to circulate.
We’ve got a job to finish,

All the best,
Renee Lewis – President
