Friends Of Denver Parks Needs Your Help

In the next few months, there will be a trial of the case involving the land swap deal which would trade Hampden Heights North Park for an office building downtown.
John Case, the attorney who represents Friends of Denver Parks pro bono, is trying to locate witnesses who have direct personal knowledge and specific memories of using the park for horseback riding, hay rides, walking, and recreation before December 31, 1955.  These witnesses most likely will be 70 years of age or older.
We are also looking for witnesses with direct personal knowledge that prior to Dec 31, 1955 the city encouraged citizens to use the land for horseback riding, hay rides, walking, and recreation.
Any persons with knowledge of such witnesses please email John Case at case@bensoncase.com with a copy to jjrcase@msn.com.  You can call John on his cell at 303-667-7407.
Thank you!!
John Case

Second Press Release July 5, 2013

FRIENDS OF DENVER PARKS – PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE JULY 5, 2013
On July 1, 2013 the Petitioners Committee filed a referendum petition with city clerk and recorder Debra Johnson to repeal the land swap deal between the city and Denver Public Schools. The referendum petition included 6,664 valid signatures of Denver registered voters. 6,129 signatures are required to place the issue on the ballot. The referendum petition included more than enough signatures to place the issue on the ballot.
On July 3, 2013 Johnson rejected the referendum petition without counting the signatures. Johnson claims that the Petitioners Committee improperly circulated the referendum petition without her permission. A copy of Johnson’s letter is available on the website FriendsofDenverParks.Org.

Change in GAME PLAN this weekend

Several of us, tried the Rockies game Friday night and found that most of the people are from out of town and were too focused on getting to their seats. So it is not the best use of time per our experience.
Good places for signature gathering will be the big parks such as ,Cheesman, Washington Park, City Park, Greenways, and possibly storefronts. Neighbors too!
We stopped by Washington Park yesterday evening and had good success there. Washington Park is usually jam packed on the weekends.
Sunday: Meet up at City Park we want to have as many petition circulators as possible for the thousands who attend Jazz in the Park. 5PM to 8PM .
Returning petitions
We absolutely need to have all petitions returned to 10081 East Cornell Ave, Denver Co.80231 during the following times.
Judy will be available to notarize the petitions at her home. Please call her for directions or questions. 303-667-7207
Saturday morning 8 – 12
Sunday morning 9 -12
Judy will be available for returning petitions Sunday night at City Park, “Jazz in the Park” until 8PM.
We will be turning in the petitions to the City Clerk and Recorder on Monday, July 1, 2013. This is the deadline.
Thank you to everyone for all your hard work and dedication to saving Hentzell Park
Natural Area, and continuing on with the fight.
In the bigger scheme there are other natural spaces and open areas
ready and ripe for the developers and Mayor Hancock to divvy up. We can’t stop now, nor can we accept this as our reality.
We expect to have two news releases next week documenting our next steps in the legal process.
